BOISE, Idaho — One day after securing the highest-rated recruiting class ever by any current member of the Mountain West, Boise State will have to replace a contributor to that historic effort.

Deontrae Cooper, coordinator of recruiting relations and player personnel, confirmed to KTVB Sports Director Jay Tust on Thursday night he is leaving the Boise State football staff after two seasons for a similar role at a Power 5 program.

Tust on Friday confirmed Cooper will be the assistant director of player personnel at Arizona State. He joins former Boise State director of recruiting relations Jason Cvercko, who is now the director of player personnel for the Sun Devils.

Cooper's efforts helped Boise State get to the Mountain West championship game in back-to-back seasons, which included winning a conference title this past December.

"Coach Danielson, the coaching staff, the players and Bronco Nation are why Boise State is truly special, and will always have a special place in my heart," Cooper told KTVB.

In the most recent recruiting cycle, Boise State landed two former five-star high school recruits out of the transfer portal, in addition to four-star linebacker Clay Martineau out of Oregon.

The Broncos also had the top recruiting class in the Mountain West in 2023, which was Cooper's first year at Boise State.
