No. 15 Boise State returns to The Blue for the first time in nearly a month to face a battle-tested San Diego State squad Friday night in front of a sold-out crowd at Albertsons Stadium.

The Broncos (6-1, 3-0 MW) took control of the Mountain West standings and upped their status as the Group of Five favorite for the College Football Playoff with a crucial and strenuous 29-24 win over UNLV last week on the road.

Although San Diego State takes to the City of Trees with a losing record, it remains in the middle of the conference race with victories over Hawaii and Wyoming. The back-to-back wins came after the Aztecs (3-4, 2-0) lost three in a row in September.

First-year head coach Sean Lewis and the Aztecs have experienced four straight games decided by three points or less. San Diego State fell 29-26 to now No. 22 Washington State at Snapdragon Stadium on Saturday.

Boise State matched its season-best spot in the Associated Press Top 25 poll, moving back up to No. 15 after the rumble with the Rebels. The Broncos boast a 117-21 all-time record while ranked in the AP Top 25 poll, the best mark of any team over the past 40 years.

The path to the CFP widened for Boise State with its success in the Sin City and the first loss of the season for previous No. 24 Navy, who was knocked off 51-14 by Notre Dame. Undefeated Army is the only other G5 team in the week 10 rankings, sitting at No. 21 before Saturday's showdown with Air Force.

Friday evening's bout features two of the top sack-producing defenses in the FBS. Boise State scored six sacks at UNLV, upping its season total to 35, which leads the nation. The Broncos are also No. 1 in the nation with 5.00 sacks per game.

San Diego State is ranked No. 3 in the country with 28.0 total sacks and 4.00 per game. The Aztecs face a tall task in Boise State's front five, which is tied at No. 7 nationwide having allowed just six sacks this fall, as noted by Tom Scott in the latest Scott Slant.

The conference foes are also expected to lean on their backfield talent on The Blue. Senior Marquez Cooper has turned 169 carries into 748 rushing yards, which ranks 25th in the nation, averaging 4.4 yards per carry.

Junior Ashton Jeanty continues his Heisman-worthy work against an Aztec defense allowing 159.6 rushing yards per game, No. 86 in the country. He posted 186 yards and three scores on 13 attempts in Boise State's last home game against Utah State (Oct. 5).

The Bronco star stands alone as the nation's best in rushing yards (1,376) and rushing yards per game (196.6), while at No. 2 in yards per carry (8.65) and rushing touchdowns (18).
