No. 12 Boise State prepares for their last Mountain West conference game of the regular season in a Saturday showdown against the Wyoming Cowboys at the highest stadium in college football.
The Broncos enter this game after a 42-21 road win over the San Jose State Spartans last Saturday. The Cowboys are coming off of a 24-10 road loss against the Colorado State Rams.
A conference win for the Broncos on Saturday will clinch a spot in the 2024 Old Trapper Mountain West Conference Championship, making a third straight conference championship game appearance.
Ashton Jeanty, Boise State's Heisman hopeful, looks to improve his Heisman campaign on Jonah Field sitting only 107 yards from breaking the 2,000-yard mark. Considering Jeanty's least rushing yards in a single game this season sits at 127 yards, it is likely to see Jeanty break the milestone on Saturday.
An interesting parallel between the teams is both coaches Spencer Danielson and Jay Sawvel are entering their first seasons as head coach. Danielson took over the Broncos last season and in his first full season, he has led his team to a 9-1 season and being undefeated in conference play. Wyoming's Jay Sawvel took over as head coach following the Cowboys' bowl win against Toledo last season. In an interesting parallel to Danielson, Sawvel was also promoted to head coach from serving as the defensive coordinator. The Cowboys are currently 2-8 on the season.
"This is probably the best Mountain West team in the five years I've been in this conference coming here this week," said Wyoming head coach Jay Sawvel. "It's a big challenge when you are playing a team that is right now on track to play in the playoff."
Last season, the teams met at Albertsons Stadium for a win 32-7 in the Broncos' favor. The only loss the Broncos have to the Cowboys came in 2016 at a game in Laramie when Wyoming was led by current-NFL quarterback Josh Allen.
War Memorial Stadium, home of the Cowboys, sits at the highest elevation of any other D I college football stadium sitting at a height of 7,220 feet. The University of Wyoming calls Jonah Field "one of the most feared places to play in college football" due to the cold temps, crowd noise and the elevation.
Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. MT Saturday on CBS Sports Network. Information on how to watch the Broncos-Cowboys battle is included in this article.
