Game Day Guide: New Mexico vs Boise State
Everything Bronco Nation needs to know about Boise State's showdown against New Mexico Saturday night at Albertsons Stadium.
Boise State will try to rebound after their road loss to Fresno State when the team faces off against New Mexico Saturday night at Albertsons Stadium.
The loss dropped the Broncos to 4-5 overall for the first time since 1997 and gave Fresno possession of the rivalry's Milk Can trophy for the first time since 2017. Boise State now sits at 3-2 in Mountain West play with three conference contests remaining.
Boise State has not had a a losing record in a season since 1997, when the team finished 5-6.
They will need to win at least two more games in order to be bowl-eligible this season.
The Lobos (3-6, 1-4 in MWC) are also coming off a loss, falling to upstart UNLV (7-2, 4-1 in MWC) last Saturday.
On Friday, Boise State head coach Andy Avalos announced that redshirt freshman Maddux Madsen would be getting his first start as quarterback. Madsen has been splitting snaps with sophomore Taylen Green for most of the season.
Avalos told reporters Friday morning Green will still play.
"We feel like this will be an even greater opportunity to get (Taylen) involved in the game and have him present more in the game than he has in the last couple of games," he said. "We're really looking forward to building on the production we had as an offense. Our production has really gone up since we have been using the two quarterbacks and we intend to keep using both quarterbacks."
The matchup is set to kickoff at 8 p.m. MT Saturday in Boise on Fox Sports 1.
