BOISE -- Coach Pete won 92 games over the last eight years, but really Boise State's success stems back even further.

There is no doubt new Boise State head coach Bryan Harsin is blue and orange through and through. With today's news, he becomes the 14th head coach in the NCAA to coach at his alma mater.

Harsin is directly connected to the last six Boise State head coaches going all the way back to the mid-90s. Harsin played for Pokey Allen, interim head coach Tom Mason, Houtson Nutt and Dirk Koetter. Once Harsin's playing days were done, he returned under the tutedge of Dan Hawkins and was promoted to offensive coordinator by Chris Petersen.

Hawkins - who gave Harsin his first shot to coach Division One football - told KTVB Boise State's new head coach has the pedigree to succeed.

I think that one of the hallmarks of Boise State football is that I think it's never been just about football, said Hawkins. It's been about developing young people. It's been about graduating young people, and emphasizing all those values that I think that's why he was in the program.

As for what the 105 guys who have been waiting in the locker room over at Boise State since last Friday should expect out of this hire, well... the winningest quarterback in the history of college football weighed in. Kellen Moore played for three season under Harsin when he was the offensive coordinator for the Broncos from 2006-to-2010.

Moore told KTVB that Harsin and Coach Pete are essentially cut from same cloth, and the BSU's winningest ways should continue.

The plan that's in place has worked for a long time, said Moore. Coach Harsin has a lot of confidence and has been a part of the development of the plan. I think he'll do a tremendous job. You know, put his little twist on it. There no better story than him being able to come back and be the head coach. I think he'll do an awesome job, and I'm really excited for him.

He said in the recruiting process, Harsin is a real relateable guy. Moore added that once he got on campus at Boise State, Harsin continued to show he cared about his players outside of football.

The university is currently working to announce when Harsin's introductory news conference will be. KTVB will carry it live on ChanNel 7, KTVB.COM, and the Bronco Roundup app.
