BOISE, Idaho — The NCAA has overturned a targeting call against sixth-year safety Alexander Teubner from Boise State's 37-34 loss to No. 7 Oregon, per sources.

Teubner was ejected early in the second half Saturday for a hit on quarterback Dillon Gabriel after officials reviewed the play and deemed it targeting.

The controversial call came on a first down at Oregon's 22-yard line. Not only did the Broncos lose one of their best defensive players, but the Ducks also gained 15 yards due to the personal foul.

Following the game, Boise State appealed the ruling to the NCAA. According to sources, the call was incorrect and Teubner should not have been ejected at Autzen Stadium.

Teubner will not have to miss the first half of Boise State's home opener against Portland State as a result of the successful appeal. The Broncos' debut on The Blue is set for 7:45 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21 on Fox Sports 1.

Bronco Nation will notice a green dot on Teubner's helmet this fall. The NCAA now allows in-helmet communication between a player and coach – one on offense and one on defense. The standout safety serves as Boise State's defensive communicator.

Three plays after Teubner was ejected, Gabriel hit Traeshon Holden for a 59-yard touchdown on a quick slant over the middle on third-and-long. Oregon missed the extra point, knotting the score at 20.

The touchdown could have occurred either way, but it certainly would not have hurt to have an all-conference honoree on the field. With Teubner out, junior safety Zion Washington wore the helmet communication device and called plays for the defense.

Washington forced a fumble and posted a career-high 10 tackles in Eugene. Gabriel was 18-of-21 with 243 passing yards and two touchdowns.
