BOISE, Idaho — After speculation surrounding his future at Boise State, arguably the best running back in the country on Tuesday announced he will remain a Bronco. Ashton Jeanty on social media said, "let's run it back!"
Jeanty took the region by storm this fall, rushing for 1,262 yards and 14 touchdowns in 11 games, to go along with 552 receiving yards and five scores on 39 grabs. The sophomore ranks second in the country with 1,814 all-purpose yards entering bowl season.
His impressive performance led to a first team all-conference nod and being named the 2023 Mountain West Offensive Player of the Year. Jeany joined Kellen Moore and Brett Rypien as the only Broncos to earn the honor as the top offensive player in the league.
In his announcement Tuesday, Jeanty expressed his excitement about the future of Boise State football under newly-named head coach Spencer Danielson. He also said, "I love this city and the people here. This decision feels good. It feels right. It is final."
"Knowing the legacy I can leave behind and the impact that I can have to change people's lives is important, and I appreciate the opportunity to do that for a program that changed my live by believing in me when no one else did," Jeanty said. "I look forward to closing this season out on a high note before getting to work on next year. Our fans deserve nothing less."
Boise State linebacker Andrew Simpson and Jeanty were both named All-America by the College Football Network on Tuesday. Jeanty received first team honors, while Simpson landed on the third team.
In the Broncos' 44-20 win over UNLV in the Mountain West title game on Saturday, Jeanty turned 21 carries into 153 yards and a score. He also had two receptions for 15 yards. Jeanty enters the LA Bowl averaging 6.2 yards per carry and 114.73 yards per game.
“I think the world of Ashton Jeanty as a young man, both on and off the field. He is a tremendous leader for our team on both sides of the ball," Danielson said on Jeanty returning in 2024. "He’s an incredible person with a good head on his shoulders that loves his teammates and this place. I’m excited for what’s next at Boise State and there’s no one I’d rather do it with than Ashton Jeanty. It’s time to get started.”
Jeanty's decision comes one day after Boise State quarterback Taylen Green announced he was entering the transfer portal. The redshirt sophomore from Lewisville, Texas, has been with the program since 2021 and appeared in 28 games for the Broncos.
KTVB Sports Director Jay Tust on Monday reported Green quickly received interest from the likes of Arkansas, Baylor, Cal, Oregon State, Miami and Michigan State. Green said he is "not closing the door on returning to Boise State," but it seems unlikely he would play in the Broncos' upcoming bowl game.
Boise State is set to face UCLA in the 2023 Starco Brands LA Bowl Hosted By Gronk at SoFi Stadium on Saturday, Dec. 16. The contest kicks off at 5:30 p.m. MT (4:30 p.m. PT) on ABC.
