BOISE, Idaho — Former Boise State quarterback Taylen Green, who entered the transfer portal one week ago, committed to Arkansas on Monday.
Green's decision comes after spending the weekend in Fayetteville, Ark. The junior-to-be was scheduled to visit California today, along with BYU, LSU, and Oregon State, later in the week, but Green canceled those visits on Monday morning, according to a source.
Green took over as the starting quarterback at Boise State prior to the fifth game of the 2022 season. The Broncos won eight of the 10 contests he started, capped by a 35-32 victory over North Texas in the Frisco Bowl.
When all was said and done, Green became the first FBS freshman quarterback with 10-plus passing touchdowns and 10-plus rushing touchdowns in a single season since Jalen Hurt accomplished the feat at Alabama in 2016. One year prior, Lamar Jackson did it at Louisville.
The 2023 season got off to a bit of a slow start for Green, and eventually, he started splitting snaps with redshirt freshman Maddux Madsen.
In mid-November, however, Madsen suffered a season-ending knee injury, head coach Andy Avalos was fired, but interim head coach Spencer Danielson re-committed to Green as the starter.
Green then led Boise State wins over Utah State and Air Force, before a blowout win in the Mountain West Championship Game over UNLV. In his final game as a Bronco, Green totaled up four touchdowns and won offensive MVP honors, completing 12-of-15 passes for 226 yards to go along with 90 yards rushing on eight carries.
Green, who has two years of eligibility left, is one of two quarterbacks in conference history to start in the Mountain West Championship Game as a freshman and sophomore.
"I am undeniably a better man today than I was when I first arrived at Boise in 2021 as an 18-year-old freshman. I truly appreciate the valuable lessons that I learned there and I fully plan to build on those in the next chapter of my life. I will never forget the unwavering support I have received and I will always be cheering for Bronco Nation," Green said.
He finishes his Boise State career with 3,794 yards passing, 1,024 yards rushing and 44 total touchdowns.
This is the second straight season Boise State's starting quarterback has entered the transfer portal. Former Bronco Hank Bachmeier left in the middle of the 2022 season. He eventually committed to Louisiana Tech before recently re-entering the portal and transferring to Wake Forest.
