No. 11 Idaho Vandals preparing for Che-Scow rivalry game with EWU

Idaho only won by one score in last year's meeting.

MOSCOW, Idaho — Coming off a five-point victory over Cal Poly, the Idaho Vandals will now turn their attention to (2-5) Eastern Washington on Saturday.

Despite the Eags' record, Idaho head coach Jason Eck knows his team can expect Eastern's best on Saturday.

"This is a game where you can throw the records out, this is a big rivalry game and I certainly see a lot of talent running around on that field," Eck said.

EWU star wide receiver Efton Chism III and the three headed quarterback monster of Kekoa Visperas, Jared Taylor and Michael Wortham have certainly caught Coach Eck's eye.

"I think Chism is probably the best receiver in our conference, Visperas, we did not get a chance to play against him last year because he was injured, but I think he is one of the better quarterbacks in the conference and Taylor played well against us last year and is a great runner," Eck said. "Wortham is a guy who can run when he is in there and is a great returner and had some big plays against us last year, so it is going to be a challenge, but we are going to be excited to play these guys."

As for the Vandals, they continue to monitor the progression of starting quarterback Jack Layne as he works his way back from surgery for a broken collarbone suffered in week one against Oregon.

Layne has been practicing and doing individual drills, but has not been cleared for full contact yet pending the results of another X-ray.

It is possible Layne could play Saturday, but for now, Jack Wagner will practice as the starter this week.

No matter who is at quarterback, Idaho will have to contend with a strong EWU offense, which has scored at least 35 points per game in each of its last three games.

"They have scored points on everybody, I think they are a better team than their record indicates," Eck said. "We definitely have to be ready to go and play well because they know what they are doing on offense."

Kickoff Saturday at the P1FCU Kibbie Dome is set for 6 p.m.
