BOISE -- The 3000 meter steeplechase is one of the more unique and fascinating track and field events at the summer Olympics.
Consisting of 28 "barriers" (or hurdles) and seven water jumps, the steeplechase could be considered an obstacle course on the track.
KTVB's Will Hall caught up with former Boise State steeplechaser Marisa Howard to find out how athletes get into the sport and what it takes to compete in such a unique event.
Marisa Howard, a former two-time first-team All-American, including a runner-up finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in the 2014 NCAA track and field championships, now runs professionally for Oiselle.
Due to a hip injury, Howard did not compete at the Olympic Trials in Eugene this summer but plans to be back on the professional circuit next spring and summer, competing at the world championships next August in London.
