BOISE, Idaho β Rexburg native Chari Hawkins is set to represent the United States in the 2024 Paris Olympics after posting the performance of a lifetime in Eugene at the U.S. track trials.
Hawkins finished second overall in the women's heptathlon Monday night with a personal-best score of 6,456 points, earning one of three Team USA bids in the event for the Paris Olympics.
The Utah State University great finished just behind Anna Hall, who had 6,614 points, and ahead of Taliyah Brooks with 6,408 points. Hawkins captured the silver medal with a personal-best time of 2:14.76 in the heptathlon 800-meter race.
Hawkins punched her ticket to Paris based on current World Athletics rankings, where she sits No. 12 overall and second among Americans, despite not meeting the event's Olympic standard of 6,480 points.
Final qualification for the Paris Olympics' field of 24 in the women's heptathlon features the top-three athletes in each country who meet 6,480 points. Qualifying then includes the highest-ranked athletes in the world until the 24-person field is met.
During the U.S. Olympic Team Trials at Hayward Field, Hawkins finished in the top three in four heptathlon events. She finished second with all-time bests in the shot put (14.67 meters) and javelin throw (49.28 meters). The Idaho native also placed second with 1.79 meters in the high jump and third with a time of 13.11 in the 100-meter hurdles.
The 33-year-old will make her Olympic debut in Paris during the heptathlon, which is scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 8, and Friday, Aug. 9, at the Stade de France. Coverage in the United States will be broadcast on NBC, USA and Peacock.

- 100m hurdles: 3rd place - 13.11 seconds - 1,108 points
- 800m: 7th place - 2:14.76 - 896 points
- 200m: 10th place - 24.21 seconds - 961 points
- Long jump: 11th place - 5.97 meters - 840 points
Hawkins is the fifth member of Team Idaho to officially qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics, joining Caldwell native Alyssa Mendoza (women's boxing), Boise native Matteo Jorgenson (men's road cycling), Haley Batten (women's mountain biking) and ChloΓ© Dygert (women's road cycling).
