BOISE, Idaho — Note: The video above is from a 2018 article on hiking and cycling etiquette in the Foothills.
A section of upper 8th Street in the Boise Foothills is closing for the season Wednesday as part of an effort to reduce road damage in the wet and snowy months.
The Bureau of Land Management closure applies only to full-sized vehicles, and will remain in place from Dec. 1 to May 15. Motorcycles, mountain bikes, off-road vehicles 50 inches or less wide, and other non-motorized use will still be allowed.
The closed area begins 2.8 miles from the Jim Hall Foothills Learning Center.
"The purpose of this seasonal road closure has always been to prevent road damage from full-size vehicle use when the roadbed is wet and easily rutted," said David Draheim, BLM outdoor recreation planner. "This annual closure has gone a long way toward minimizing erosion and road maintenance costs and preventing other resource damage from occurring each year."
