Wrestling program headed to TVCC Caldwell

The Treasure Valley Community College campus in Caldwell has announced the creation of its first men's and women's wrestling program.

CALDWELL -- Wrestling fans rejoice!

Treasure Valley Community College's Caldwell campus has announced the creation of a men's and women's club wrestling program.

At this time, no athletic scholarships will be awarded, but TVCC Associate Vice President Abby Lee says there will be multiple opportunities to fundraise. Students are also encouraged to apply for other scholarships to help cover the cost.

Interested wrestlers can attend one of two informational meetings and tryouts: April 21 at 9 a.m. and May 19 at 9 a.m.

Both meetings will be held at Sergeant's Training Facility at 521 Main St. in Caldwell.

Team workouts will begin in June with competitions beginning this fall.

Wrestlers will need to be enrolled in classes at the TVCC Caldwell campus in order to compete.

In April 2017, Boise State announced they planned to eliminate the men's wrestling program in an effort to better align its athletic programs with other Mountain West schools.

The Boise State wrestling program competed in the PAC-12 conference, where it won six conference championships, most recently in 2011.
