BOISE, Idaho — The Ada County Highway District (ACHD) is adding new school zone flashers throughout the county. School zone flashers slow traffic to 20 miles per hour when flashing near schools and are programmed to operate at the beginning and end of the school days.
51 new flashers have been replaced with the new system to date and ACHD expects to have all replaced by the end of February.
The new systems have cellular modems that can be programmed remotely, which will allow ACHD to quickly change the time school zone flashers operate.
ACHD previously had to visit each school zone flasher location to change the programming time, which could take nearly an hour according to ACHD.
All 248 existing school flashers will be replaced with the new system by February 2021.
