BOISE, Idaho — The average price for a gallon of regular gas in Idaho dropped five cents in the past week and 18 cents in a month, sitting at $3.75 on Tuesday, AAA reported

The dip moved the Gem State from ninth to 10th for most expensive fuel, with California's mark of $5.12 leading all states by more than 30 cents. AAA said the national average of $3.59 per gallon is up one cent from this time last year, but down seven cents from a month ago.

GasBuddy also reported a roughly five-cent drop for Boise's average gas prices this past week, with Tuesday's cost sitting at $3.76 per gallon. Using its survey of 216 stations, GasBuddy puts current prices at 17.7 cents less than a month ago in the City of Trees.

“Over Memorial Day weekend, a record 38.4 million Americans took a road trip, but stability on the supply side has kept gas prices in check,” said Matthew Conde, AAA Idaho public affairs director. “Crude oil has been at or below $80 per barrel for the entire month of May, and refineries have also been performing fairly well.  But crude oil and gasoline supplies could tighten as the school year ends and as more families start to travel, bringing steady demand and higher prices with them.”

GasBuddy on Tuesday reported a 2.9-cent decrease in the past week for the national average price of diesel, which stands at $3.82 per gallon. AAA's news release said the West Texas Intermediate benchmark for crude oil is about the same as last week, trading near $80 per barrel.

GasBuddy's breakdown of gas prices per gallon in Boise in the past 10 years is included below, alongside historical national averages:
