BOISE, Idaho — In the Boise area, drivers have seen an 11 cent rise in gas prices this week, according to GasBuddy.
The new average price for a gallon of gas is $3.19 per gallon on Monday, which is 35 cents per gallon higher than a month ago, and sits at 57 cents per gallon lower than a year ago. According to GasBuddy's survey of 216 stations in Boise, the cheapest station in Boise was priced at $3.06 per gallon and the most expensive was priced at $3.49 per gallon, a difference of 43 cents.
For the Gem State, the lowest priced station in the state was $2.89 and the most expensive was $3.69, a difference of 80 cents. According to AAA, Idaho ranks 25th in the nation for most expensive fuel =,
Nationally, the average price of gas has gone up by 10 cents per gallon, marking a new average price of $3.34 per gallon. The national average is up 22 cents from a month ago, and is three cents lower than a year ago. AAA reports that the national average is $3.35 per gallon.
"A majority of the nation's 50 states have seen gasoline prices rise, with the national average posting a gain for the second straight week, a trend that is hardly surprising for this time of year, and will likely continue as the entire nation has now made the first step toward summer gasoline," said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy. "The pinch at the pump has been manageable for now, with prices about 30 cents higher than mid-January, but that will likely change as we enter the madness we tend to see in March with refinery maintenance hitting its peak, impacting how much gasoline can be produced as we make the changeover to the summer blends. This always crimps supply, leading to further gas price increases."
The national average price for diesel is almost three cents lower than a week ago, and sits at $4.03 per gallon.
"As we approach Spring Break, gasoline demand tends to rise. Supplies dip as refineries sell off their remaining winter-blend fuel, complete seasonal maintenance, and make the switch to more-expensive summer-blend. All of that can be a recipe for higher pump prices," AAA Idaho public affairs director Matthew Conde said. "Given the winter storms that have kicked off March, the market may pressurize and de-pressurize with the rise and fall of temperatures over the next few weeks."
