Boise gas prices drop nearly a dime in the last week

The new price in Boise is averaging $2.83 per gallon.

BOISE, Idaho — According to GasBuddy, the average price of a gallon of gas has dropped 9.7 cents this week, marking a new average gas price of $2.83 per gallon on Monday.

In a survey of 216 stations in Boise by GasBuddy, prices in Boise have fallen just over 32 cents per gallon less than a month ago, and 88 cents less than a year ago.

The cheapest station in Boise was priced at $2.64 per gallon, and the most expensive is $3.05 per gallon, a difference of 41 cents. As for the Gem State, the lowest price was $2.35 per gallon and the highest was $3.59 per gallon a difference of $1.24 per gallon.

AAA reports that prices across the state have leveled off, lowering only fractionally. AAA also states that Idaho gas prices are at the lowest price in nearly three years, but the recent downward trend may be coming to an end soon.

"On the AAA gas prices heat map, Idaho is in the blue for the first time that I can remember.  The entire Rockies region is benefitting from abundant gasoline stocks that have been roughly 20% higher than a year ago in recent weeks," says AAA Idaho public affairs director Matthew Conde.  "But with the national average on the rise this week and a miniscule drop in the state average, we may see Gem State pump prices change course in the near future."

Diesel has risen 3 cents in the last week and sits at $3.92 per gallon.

Nationally, the average price of gas rose just over 4 cents per gallon last week, marking a new average price of $3.12 per gallon. That is 4 cents higher than a month ago, and 32.5 cents per gallon lower than a year ago, according to GasBuddy.

"A majority of states again saw average gasoline prices rise over the last week, pushed slightly higher by oil prices that had risen to multi-month highs. While most states saw price increases, they were somewhat tame, though the trend will likely begin to accelerate towards the end of the month. For now, the most common gas price in the U.S. remains $2.99 per gallon, but its days are numbered," said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy.
