Boise gas prices up 10 cents this week, 11 cents in Idaho

According to GasBuddy's survey of 216 stations in the Boise area, the cheapest station was priced at $2.94 per gallon on Monday.

BOISE, Idaho — The Boise area saw a roughly 10 cent rise in fuel prices this week, according to GasBuddy. The new average price for a gallon of gas is $3.08 on Monday. Prices in Boise are 14 cents higher than a month ago, and sit almost 69 cents lower than a year ago.

According to GasBuddy's survey of 216 stations in the Boise area, the cheapest station was priced at $2.94 per gallon and the most expensive was priced at $3.35 per gallon, a difference of 31 cents per gallon.

The lowest price in the state on Sunday, per GasBuddy, was priced at $2.83 per gallon and the most expensive was $3.69 per gallon, a difference of 86 cents.

AAA of Idaho stated in a news release that the state average for a gallon of gas rose 11 cents compared to a week ago, which is also 19 cents more than a month ago.

However, compared to last year, a gallon of gas statewide is 52 cents less than a year ago, AAA stated.

As for the national price of fuel, the cost of a gallon of gas has dropped 2 cents per gallon in the last week, marking a new average of $3.24 per gallon today. That price is up 13 cents from last month, and 9 cents lower than a year ago.

"Motorists have finally seen a bit of a break in the recent rise in the national average, with more states seeing drops than increases in the last week. While the pause has certainly been nice, this is more like a rain delay than it is a 7th inning strech," said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy. "It's likely only a matter of time before we see the rise re-engage and prices start to head higher, but we'll take any break that we can. Oil prices have shown some signs of struggling last week after coming within arms reach of $80 per barrel before falling closer to $76, but all eyes are on refiners as utilization remained seasonally weak, around 80% of capacity, meaning there's less gasoline and diesel being produced. That's why it's just a matter of time before prices collide with rising demand and start to accelerate again."
