A dime higher, gas prices in Boise rise this week

The cheapest station in Boise was priced at $2.83 per gallon on Sunday, and the most expensive was priced at $3.39 per gallon, a difference of 56 cents.

BOISE, Idaho — Boise area gas stations saw a roughly 10 cent rise in price, according to GasBuddy's survey of 216 stations in Boise.

The average gallon of gas in Boise is priced at $2.97 per gallon on Monday, showing that prices are nearly 4 cents lower than a month ago, and stands at 80 cents less than a year ago.

The cheapest station in Boise was priced at $2.83 per gallon on Sunday, and the most expensive was priced at $3.39 per gallon, a difference of 56 cents.

On Tuesday, AAA reported that the average price for a gallon of gas in the Gem State is $3.05, up 10 cents from last week. The lowest priced station was clocking in at $2.64 per gallon and the highest was $3.39 per gallon, a difference of 75 cents, according to GasBuddy.

"The Gem State has been in the enviable position of being below the national average since mid-January, and we're still experiencing less pain at the pump than a year ago.  But gasoline stocks are dropping, and the price of crude oil is rising," AAA Idaho public affairs director Matthew Conde said.  "Barring another significant cold snap, Idaho gas prices are likely to climb heading into the spring."

Nationally speaking, the price of gas has gone up almost 9 cents per gallon, marking the national average at $3.26 per gallon. The national average is up almost 17 cents per gallon from a month ago and is 11 cents per gallon lower than a year ago, according to GasBuddy's nationwide survey of over 150,000 stations across the country.

"Roses are red, violets are blue, Valentine’s is over, and gas prices are going anywhere but lower," Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy said. "With Valentine's Day now behind us, we have officially entered the time of year when gas prices traditionally start their spring fling, but we've already seen the streak of consecutive increases in the national average hit four weeks. While the early start could also mean an early end, we still have as many as 8 weeks that gas prices typically increase, and anything can happen between now and then. One of the most critical elements to how much gas prices will climb is how quickly and effectively refiners can finish their pre-summer maintenance, start producing EPA-mandated summer gasoline and build up supply of it before Memorial Day."
