BOISE, Idaho — According to GasBuddy, gas prices in the Boise area have dropped 2 cents in the last week, marking a new average price of $3.59 per gallon.

GasBuddy surveys 216 stations in the Boise area, and what they found was prices in Boise are 1 cent lower than a month ago, and 54 cents lower than a year ago.

Diesel prices have also gone down roughly 2 cents and the average price for a gallon of diesel is $3.69 per gallon - the lowest price diesel has been in 940 days.

"Gasoline and diesel prices continue to trail off across much of the country as summer demand fades away. Lower demand in other oil-consuming nations is also helping to lead the downward pressure on pump prices as we approach Labor Day," said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy. "With little new action in the Middle East to rile up prices and Hurricane Ernesto remaining far out at sea, it looks like the downward trend could continue into the week ahead. As more schools begin to resume, gasoline demand will likely continue to ease. With the transition to winter gasoline less than a month away for the majority of the nation, gas prices will soon begin their seasonal cooling off— just as temperatures soon will as well."

The cheapest station in Boise was priced at $3.44 per gallon on Sunday, while the most expensive was priced at $3.65, a difference of 21 cents.

As for the State of Idaho, the lowest price was at $3.16 per gallon and the highest priced station was coming in at $4.39 per gallon, a difference of $1.23 per gallon.

Nationally, the average has dropped 4 cents per gallon in the past week, marking a new average of $3.37 per gallon on Monday. That price is 11 cents lower than a month ago, and is 48 cents lower than a year ago.

AAA reported similar numbers. They report that Idaho's average for a gallon of gas is $3.59 per gallon, and is ranked 10th in the country for most expensive fuel. Hawaii, California, and Washington take the top three positions for most expensive fuel.

“With few exceptions, Idaho pump prices have been steadily falling since April, which is unusual given the record number of drivers that have taken trips for Memorial Day and the 4th of July,” Matthew Conde, public affairs director for AAA, said.  “Some people are still working and meeting remotely after the pandemic, so daily commutes and some business travel may have changed.  But people still see recreational travel and family get-togethers as an investment in their quality of life.”
