Boise area sees 4 cent drop in gas prices

Diesel prices have dropped to $3.72 per gallon, the lowest it has been since January 2022.

BOISE, Idaho — The new average price for a gallon of gas in Boise is $3.61 on Monday.

According to GasBuddy's survey of 216 stations in the Boise area, prices have fallen four cents this week, with prices reportedly 2 cents lower than a month ago and 44 cents lower than a year ago.

The national average of diesel has dropped three cents this week as well, with a new average price for a gallon of diesel at $3.72 - the lowest the price has been since January 2022, over 900 days ago, GasBuddy reports.

The cheapest station in Boise was priced at $3.35 per gallon on Sunday, whereas the most expensive was priced at $3.79 per gallon, a difference of 44 cents.

As for the state, the lowest price was $2.69 Sunday, and the most expensive was priced at $4.29 per gallon, a difference of $1.60 per gallon.

Nationally, the average price for a gallon of gas has dropped by three cents this week, marking a new average of $3.41 per gallon. That price is down 12 cents from a month ago, and 42 cents lower than a year ago.

"As summer driving season comes to a gradual close, we continue to see gasoline prices declining in most of the country as demand remains muted. Incredibly, the drop has also caused diesel fuel prices to crumble to their lowest level since before Russia's invasion of Ukraine," said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy. "As long as we can avoid a major hurricane threatening refineries in the Gulf region, I believe we could see declines continue into this week, with the national average potentially dipping to its lowest level of the summer. However, should economic data come in better than expected, there still could be a short-lived rally. While some states may also see gas prices rise to routine price cycling, primarily in the Great Lakes and Florida, prices across the board remain lower in every state compared to a year ago."

AAA reports slightly different numbers than GasBuddy. AAA reports that there was a two cent drop in fuel prices but has the same average as GasBuddy, $3.61 per gallon.

According to AAA, Idaho has the ninth highest price per gallon at the pump.
