BOISE, Idaho — According to a news release from AAA, the average cost for a gallon of gas has gone up 16 cents this week alone. The new average price for a gallon of gas is $3.51, just two cents below the national average.
Idaho gas prices dropped below the national average on January 15, 2024, and stayed under the national average for more than two months. However, this week's increase in fuel prices may change that soon.
The price of $3.51 per gallon is 16 cents higher than a week ago, and 42 cents higher than a month ago, according to AAA, which ranks Idaho 16th in the nation for most expensive fuel. The jump in fuel prices was the sixth highest jump, behind Utah which jumped 22 cents.
"Skyrocketing prices in Utah, where most of our state's gasoline originates, have a profound impact on what's happening in Idaho," AAA Idaho public affairs director Matthew Conde said. "While U.S. fuel demand actually slipped a bit this week, supply-side activity has pushed pump prices higher."
According to the Energy Information Administration, stocks for gasoline and crude oil have decreased by three million barrels and two million barrels this week. The AAA news release also states that regional refineries are operating at 81%, whereas the average across the U.S. is 88%.

- Boise - $3.52 (+15 cents)
- Coeur d'Alene - $3.62 (+16 cents)
- Franklin - $3.51 (+16 cents)
- Idaho Falls - $3.37 (+21 cents)
- Lewiston - $3.63 (+21 cents)
- Pocatello - $3.40 (+12 cents)
- Rexburg - $3.38 (+17 cents)
- Twin Falls - $3.45 (+14 cents)
