Westbound I-84 reopened after a 5-vehicle crash sends two people to the hospital

Traffic on Interstate 84 was at a standstill while crews worked to clear the crash.

BOISE, Idaho — A multi-vehicle crash blocked all westbound lanes on Interstate-84 for over an hour on Saturday.

The crash was first reported around noon on Saturday, at milepost 42 near Meridian.

Police say the crash happened when the back tires of 1996 Freightliner semi-truck came flying off, forcing drivers to swerve out of the way. The driver of a Ford F-350, which was hauling a camper trailer, failed to slow down and crashed into a 2015 Jeep Cherokee, which sent the Jeep crashing into a Ford F-150. The truck then collided with a 2011 Toyota Sienna van.

Two people were sent to St. Luke's in Meridian. Idaho State Police did not release how severe their injuries are.

Everyone was wearing their seatbelts at the time.
