Overnight closures on I-84 for construction material transport

Large highway construction materials will be transported via I-84 on March 13 and March 14, resulting in highway closures between Exit 38 and Exit 42.

CALDWELL, Idaho — A section of Interstate 84 (I-84) is scheduled to be closed March 13 and March 14 between the hours of 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. to allow for crews to transport large beams that will be used to construct the I-84 and State Highway 16 (SH-16) interchange. The I-84 closures will span a 4-mile stretch, between Exit 38 (Garrity) and Exit 42 (Ten Mile).

According to a news release from Idaho Transportation Department (ITD), the 16 structural beams, or girders, are being used to build six bridges along SH-16. Each 96-foot girder weighs 77,963 pounds.

Overnight closures on I-84 are as follows:

  • Eastbound I-84 will be closed on Wednesday, March 13, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • Westbound I-84 will be closed on Thursday, March 14, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

The six bridge supports (Ten Mile Creek, McMillan Overpass, Quasi Place, Five Mile Creek, Cherry Lane and I-84) are part of Governor Brad Little's multi-year project, the Leading Idaho program

According to ITD, the infrastructure project will enhance accessibility and connectivity for Gem County commuters.
