Snow storm causes 17-vehicle crash in Cassia County

According to ISP, blowing and drifting snow reduced visibility and led to dangerous driving conditions.

CASSIA COUNTY, Idaho — Blowing snow and icy conditions led to a major pileup on Interstate 84 Monday.

Seventeen vehicles in total collided on the interstate in Cassia County, sending nine people to the hospital by ambulance.

The Cassia County Sheriff's Office, Idaho State Police, Cassia County Extraction, Idaho Transportation Department, Declo Fire Department, Malta Ambulance, Life Run Medic 1 and Medic 2, and the Declo QRU all responded to the wrecks.

According to ISP, the storm moving through the area contributed to the collisions, with snow reducing visibility and leading to dangerous driving conditions.

Idaho State Police responded to an additional six crashes on I-84 and Idaho 81.

Eastbound I-84 was closed down at milepost 222 at about 6:30 p.m. while emergency crews worked. The lanes have since reopened.

The conditions of those injured have not been released.
