BOISE, Idaho — The stagnant air throughout the region will move out on Friday and into the weekend as a series of winter storm systems move in.
Starting Friday morning, clouds will replace the sunny skies and snow will begin falling in Idaho's mountains. The mountains could see a couple of inches of snow from this first storm. Snow lightly dusted the ground in part of the Treasure Valley on Friday morning in north Boise.
Light snow is expected to fall in the Treasure Valley starting late Friday night or early Saturday morning and will change over to a rain-snow mix by Sunday as another storm system moves through the region.
This second storm could bring significantly more snow to the mountains. KTVB's Futurecast shows the McCall area, for example, could more than seven inches by late Sunday night. In the Treasure Valley, one to two inches of snow are expected before it turns to rain.
Drivers should be aware that roads could be messy Sunday night into Monday morning for much of Southwest and Central Idaho.
Snow showers are expected to continue on-and-off through the end of next week.
Though the sunny skies will make way for clouds, the air quality will improve significantly as the inversion and air stagnation are pushed out.
