BOISE, Idaho — WHEN | The hottest temperatures are expected Saturday through at least Wednesday of next week, with well above-average temperatures. A string of consecutive triple-digit readings are likely in the Treasure Valley.
There's also an EXCESSIVE HEAT WATCH that will go into effect the same time frame as the especially hot temperatures.
IMPACT | Temperatures will soar above 100 degrees across southwest Idaho starting Saturday, July 6, into next week. It will be nearly 20 degrees hotter than normal for early July. The area's average high for July 6 is 90 degrees.
Expected impacts include:
- Increased risk of heat-related illnesses such as heat stress and heat stroke
- Increased risk of dehydration
- Rapidly rising and dangerously hot temperatures inside parked vehicles
- Hot pavement
- Increased wildfire risk due to drying-out of vegetation
NEED | How to stay safe in soaring temperatures:
- Find shade and air conditioned spaces as often as possible
- Stay hydrated: drink water before you feel thirsty!
- Avoid alcohol, tea, coffee and carbonated soft drinks, which can contribute to dehydration
- Never leave pets or children unattended in parked vehicles
- Wear lightweight, loose clothing
- Limit outdoor activities, especially from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- Wear sunscreen of SPF 30 or greater if spending any time outdoors
- Never allow pets to walk on hot pavement as it can burn their paws; opt for grassy or shaded areas instead
