PENDLETON, Ore. — A landspout has been reported earlier today in Pendleton, Ore., according to the National Weather Service Pendleton (NWSP).
It occurring around 11 a.m. just south of Milton-Freewater on Highway 11, confirmed by NWSP.
A landspout is described by NWSP as a tornado that does not arise from organized storm-scale rotation and is not associated with a wall cloud or a mesocyclone. Land spouts typically are seen beneath towering cumulus clouds, or a dust whirl. They're essentially the land-based equivalents of waterspouts.
In June 2023, five waterspouts formed off Rockaway Beach along the Oregon coast, according to the National Weather Service in Portland, followed hours later by a funnel cloud spotted in Salem.
