Quick warm-up before mother nature brings the waterworks back

The daily forecast from Idaho's trusted KTVB First Alert Weather team.

BOISE, Idaho — Widespread rain associated with the atmospheric river persisted Friday morning. Snow levels rose to about 7,500ft+, limiting snow accumulation to the highest peaks. Warmer air  allowed temperatures to reach the low 60s in Treasure Valley.

Drier conditions prevailed for most of Friday in both the Treasure and Magic Valleys, with mountain spots still experiencing some lighter rain and snow. Breezy winds stuck around with 10-20mph winds with gusts to around 30mph in the Treasure Valley.

A warm front is expected to move through SW Idaho overnight Friday through Saturday morning, and be followed by a cold front later Saturday.

Rain chances continue through Saturday accompanied by widespread precipitation. The cold front looks somewhat unstable but strong enough for a small chance of thunderstorms Saturday afternoon.

West Central Idaho can expect moderate to heavy precipitation through Saturday night, totaling 1-2 inches. Snow levels will be above 6000 feet until Saturday morning. By Saturday afternoon snow levels will drop to 5000 feet and continue to drop to 4000 feet by the evening. Snow levels could be down to valley floors early Sunday morning.

Colder air moves in Sunday as the trough finally starts making its way inland. This means snow showers are possible in the valleys Sunday and Monday morning, with heavy snow continuing to accumulate above 7,000' through early next week. Up to 2 FEET of snow is possible across some of the highest mountain peaks of central Idaho, and heavy snow combined with gusty winds will make for dangerously low visibility and poor traction at times.

There is a Winter Storm Warning in place for the central mountains including the Stanley Basin, the Sawtooth Mountains, and the Sun Valley region from Friday evening to Saturday evening.

Starting early next week, a series of weak systems are expected to roll across the area, keeping light precipitation around through Tuesday.

Wednesday can expect fairly dry air. Thanksgiving Day is looking to be cold with the highs in the upper 30s, but fairly dry with light winds. Overall, temps that day will be below average anticipating a frigid morning into the mid-20s.
