Weather Alert: Flash flood warning for several Idaho counties

The National Weather Service issued alerts for areas of Adams, Gem, West Central Valley and Eastern Washington Counties.

IDAHO, USA — The National Weather Service in Boise issued a Flash Flood Warning for the following areas until 8:15 p.m. on Monday Sept. 16.

Southeastern Adams County in southwestern Idaho... Northeastern Gem County in southwestern Idaho... West Central Valley County in southwestern Idaho... Eastern Washington County in southwestern Idaho.

Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 1 and 1.5 inches of rain have fallen. The expected rainfall rate is 1 to 1.5 inches in 1 hour. Additional rainfall amounts of 0.5 to 1 inch are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. Excessive rainfall over the burn scar will result in debris flow moving through the Lava Fire area. The debris flow can consist of rock, mud, vegetation and other loose materials. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.

Four Bit Summit, Granite Peak, Sage Hen Reservoir, southern Cascade Reservoir, Granger Butte and Indian Valley.

 PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Move away from recently burned areas. Life-threatening flooding of creeks, roads and normally dry washes is likely. The heavy rains will likely trigger rockslides, mudslides and debris flows in steep terrain, especially in and around these areas. && FLASH FLOOD...RADAR INDICATED; EXPECTED RAINFALL RATE...1-1.5 INCHES IN 1 HOUR
