Kuna man arrested on explosives charges

Residents of a Kuna neighborhood were asked to evacuate while a bomb squad recovered the explosives.

KUNA, Idaho — A Kuna man is in jail after law enforcement found explosives in his house.

Tyson Jardine, 37, was arrested after police found the destructive devices and tracked the man to a campsite in Elmore County. Jardine is charged with five counts of unlawful possession of bombs or destructive devices.

"What we have found so far is that it does not appear that he's been working with any groups, or any type of organization that would have a plan for these explosive devices," Ada County Sheriff Matt Clifford said during a press conference Sunday.

The Ada County Sheriff's Office was alerted to suspicious activity at a house in a Kuna neighborhood on July 24, where illegal explosives and chemicals were found in a garage.

Deputies encouraged neighbors to evacuate while the Boise Police Bomb Squad, FBI and Idaho National Guard were deployed to remove the explosives.

"Preliminary information indicated there was no mass destruction public safety threat," Clifford said.

Jardine had not been seen at his house for weeks and was tracked to a campground near Pine. ACSO said Jardine, a previously convicted felon, had a firearm and drugs on him when he was arrested.

The sheriff's office said Jardine tried to run from law enforcement when he was confronted at the campsite.

"Tyson backed into a Meridian Police armored vehicle, and then hit the ADA Metro Bearcat armored vehicle - causing damage to both of those vehicles," Clifford said. "Tyson was taken into custody without further incident and booked into the Elmore County Jail without bond."

After he appears for his arraignment in Elmore County, Jardine will be extradited to Ada County. Clifford said more charges may be filed in the future.
