'You did lie in wait': Woman, accomplice charged in Idaho campground murder

Melissa Fay Calumpit and Rosalie Lynn Morris were both charged with two counts of first-degree murder Friday.

CANYON COUNTY, Idaho — Melissa Fay Calumpit and Rosalie Lynn Morris on Friday, July 19, were charged with two counts of first-degree murder for the homicide of Travis Haywood Calumpit. Calumpit was charged with murder in the first degree and destruction, alteration, or concealment of evidence.

Morris was charged with aiding and abetting in first-degree murder, and aiding and abetting in the destruction, alteration, or concealment of evidence. All four charges are felonies. Canyon County Prosecutor Nicholas Tyler O'Bryant said Calumpit admitted the murder was premeditated.

"The defendant admitted to knowing a plan to kill the victim," O'Bryant said. "She drove from Nevada to Idaho with a gun, lured the victim to the campground where she shot and killed him … It was a coordinated and calculated plan to kill the victim."

Calumpit's bail was set at $2 million. She told Judge Kerry Michaelson that she has three children and receives assistance. She also asked the judge if she could call her sister, "so she can come up and get my children."

The judge then appointed a public defender to her case.

Morris was named as an accomplice and specifically alleged to have helped Calumpit plan and execute the murder, as well as help her to hide a cell phone and a gun.

Morris's bond was also set at $2 million and she was also given a public defender.

Calumpit's next court date, a preliminary trial, is set for July 26 at 8:30 a.m. Morris will be back in court for her preliminary trial on Aug. 2 at 8:30 p.m.

Travis Haywood Calumpit's murder occurred on July 12. Both women are alleged to have premeditated the murder and were from Battle Mountain, Nevada. The Canyon County Coroner stated that Travis Haywood Calumpit was from Parma and died from a gunshot wound.
