ADA COUNTY, Idaho — As snow piles on our roadways, Ada County Highway District (ACHD) snowplows are clearing the way. For this winter season, a few of those plows will now have a unique name chosen by the community.
On Monday, Dec.16, ACHD announced the winners of its 2nd annual "Name a Snowplow" contest from thousands of public votes. The three winning names and those who submitted them are listed below, including a fourth chosen internally by ACHD employees.
- Scoop Dog - Stephanie Johnston of Boise
- PlowyMcPlowface - Connor Finney of Kuna
- Clearapathra - Michelle Howell of Meridian
- Sled Zeppelin - Thomas Candelaria Jr. - ACHD
ACHD said winning submitters will be recognized in an upcoming meeting and will receive a $100 gift card.
"Winter maintenance is a serious job, but it's wonderful to see the community bring some creativity and fun to our fleet," said Director of Operations Tom Otte. "The new names are yet another way to connect residents to the hard work our crews do to keep Ada County roads safe."
ACHD began the "Name a Snowplow" contest in 2023, the three names chosen were "Ashton Jeanty," "The Big Leplowski," "Snotato" and "CTRL+SALT+DELETE." An ACHD spokesperson told KTVB the snowplows named in 2023 will continue to keep their names.
ACHD said the names will be given to the plows in the coming weeks.
