BOISE, Idaho — The Fourth of July is a day of celebration but it can also be a treat to dry weather, starting fires. As previously reported, the Ada County Board of Commissioners banned the use of fireworks in unincorporated areas last month.
Last year on the Fourth of July, The Boise Fire department responded to 114 service calls and 25 fires caused by fireworks. The amount of calls coming in was significantly higher than two years ago, when Boise Fire crews responded to 99 emergency calls, including 14 fire-related calls.
To efficiently respond to the number of calls, the Ada County Dispatch tried to establish a texting line for non-emergency concerns to come through. However, in an update late on July 3, Ada County states that they were unable to get the program working adequately in time.
For non-emergency concerns, please call the Ada County Dispatch line at 208-377-6790.
For fires or medical emergencies, please call 9-1-1.
"Safe and sane" fireworks are allowed for use at midnight on July 5. To enjoy a safe firework show, the public is encouraged to attend the Ann Morrison firework show, or any other firework shows in the Treasure Valley. The public is also encouraged to keep fireworks out of the Boise Foothills. For firework safety tips, visit KTVB's story here.
