Boise Bicycle Project hosts grand reopening after repairing damage caused by drunk driver

Back in December 2023, a drunk driver crashed into the BBP's building destroying a portion of the wall.

BOISE, Idaho — On Friday, the Boise Bicycle Project held a grand reopening and opened its doors back to the public after finishing repairs caused by a drunk driver who crashed into the front of the building.

In December 2023, Devin McComas, executive director of BBP, was riding to work on his bike, per usual. But as he approached the building, he told KTVB his heart sank when he noticed the front of the Boise Bicycle Project building was caved in. According to Boise police, a truck ran into their building at around 2:45 a.m.

The community banded together and quickly patched the wall with a slab of plywood, and days later, the non-profit held a successful Holiday Kids Bike Giveaway. After the event, the building closed until Friday's grand reopening.

BBP's Development Director Gillian Horn told KTVB the entire front of the building needed to come down to be rebuilt.

At Friday's event, the public was welcomed by a three-string band playing music as they entered the building.

BBP provides programs for children and people in the community, including bike safety, access to affordable bikes, and events throughout the year.
