BOISE, Idaho — WHEN:
Hottest temperatures are expected Friday and Saturday with above-average temperatures likely lingering well into next week; near-triple-digit readings possible in the Treasure Valley on Saturday.
IMPACT:
Temperatures will soar well into the 90s across SW Idaho from Friday into the weekend, nearly 20° hotter than normal for early June. Expected impacts include:
- Increased risk of dehydration
- Increased risk of heat-related illnesses like heat stress and heat stroke
- Rapidly rising and dangerously hot temperatures inside parked vehicles
- Hot pavement could burn pet paws and bare feet
- Increased wildfire risk due to drying-out of vegetation
NEED:
- Find shade and air conditioned spaces as often as possible
- Stay hydrated: drink water before you feel thirsty!
- Avoid alcohol, tea, coffee and carbonated soft drinks, which can contribute to dehydration
- NEVER leave pets or children unattended in parked vehicles
- Wear lightweight, loose clothing
- Limit outdoor activities, especially from 11am-3pm
- Wear sunscreen of SPF 30 or greater if spending any time outdoors
- Never allow pets to walk on hot pavement as it can burn their paws; opt for grassy or shaded areas instead
