Nampa man sentenced for killing his mother's alleged killer

BOISE, Idaho — A Nampa man who was convicted of second-degree murder in May 2024 was sentenced to prison.

According to court documents, Raul A. Cuevas, 32, was sentenced to serve up to 10 years in the Idaho Department of Correction on Tuesday morning. He is eligible for parole after serving four years.

Cuevas was convicted on May 14 of killing 39-year-old Jesus Urrutia, who was his mother's alleged killer.

As KTVB previously reported, Urrutia was a suspect in the murder of 52-year-old Michelle Luna, who is Cuevas' mother. Following the incident, Urrutia was found stabbed in a car at a gas station by Ada County deputies, taken to a local hospital, and later declared dead. 

Ada County deputies later identified Cuevas as the suspect in Urrutia's death.
