Garceau will take over for Idaho's Chief Meteorologist Rick Lantz when he retires this month.
BOISE, Idaho — The change of the seasons is inevitable, just like changes in careers and life. This month marks many changes for KTVB on the weather team.
As KTVB prepares to wish Idaho's Chief Meteorologist Rick Lantz a happy retirement, a rising star will take his place. Morning meteorologist Rachel Garceau will be taking over as chief meteorologist on Sunday, September 29.
Garceau joined KTVB a little more than a year ago, quickly becoming an integral part of the team.
As for the hole in the morning team, KTVB's very own Hector Mendoza is taking the position, moving from multi-skilled journalist to full-time weather anchor for Wake Up Idaho. He will also continue to report and forecast in Spanish with KTVB's En Español team.
A new Chief Meteorologist and new morning weather anchor at KTVB!I can finally let the cat out of the bag! 🥳
Starting September 29th, you'll have to tune in a bit later to catch my forecasts instead of waking up early, as I will be taking over as Chief Meteorologist here at KTVB when our current long-time and beloved Chief, Rick Lantz, retires. I know Rick will be so terribly missed by all of us here at the station - and by all of you 🥲 - when he steps away from the green screen, but I am honored and humbled to be taking on this new role and new challenge at Idaho's News Channel 7.
My last day with the incredible and talented (albeit sleep-deprived) Wake Up Idaho crew will be Friday, September 27th, and I will move to evenings (Sunday-Thursday) starting Sunday, September 29th. You can find me on the 6pm and 10pm newscasts each day, along with the occasional 4pm and 5pm show.
This also means you'll have to tune in a bit later in the day to catch my Walk Around the Block forecast, which will be coming with me to evenings, as I can't bear the thought of not getting to feature your adorable fur babies each and every day! 🐕
HUGE congrats also go to Hector Mendoza, who will be your new Wake Up Idaho weather anchor starting Monday, September 30th! He will do a great job getting you ready for the day and I am thrilled to leave you all in such good hands. 🙌

Here's what Rachel Garceau had to say about her promotion:
"Who could have known that when I chose to step away from television nearly 3 years ago that my path would eventually lead me to this amazing KTVB family, and now, to the incredible honor of becoming the station's next Chief Meteorologist. I am excited about carrying on the legacy built by the truly irreplaceable Rick Lantz and to continue to 'win with weather' as KTVB and TEGNA move forward into the changing landscape of local news. Thank you all for welcoming, encouraging and inspiring me over this past year, can't wait to see what we all accomplish together in the months and years to come!"
