BOISE, Idaho — Boise State senior guard Chibuzo Agbo plans to enter the transfer portal, sources confirmed to KTVB on Thursday.
Agbo averaged a career-best 13.7 points per game this past season, second only to Tyson Degenhart, while shooting 40.9% from the 3-point line and 45.2% from the field.
The 6-foot-7, 225-pound guard led the team with 76 made 3-pointers and started in all 33 of Boise State's games. He earned an honorable mention nod from the Mountain West's head coaches in March, the first all-conference recognition of his career.
Agbo told KTVB earlier last month that he planned to enter the 2024 NBA Draft while maintaining his final year of college eligibility. He should attract plenty of interest and options in the transfer portal while testing the NBA Draft waters.
The San Diego native pulled down 5.1 rebounds per outing during his best collegiate season, ranking third among all Broncos. After transferring from Texas Tech, Agbo averaged 12.6 points and 5.0 rebounds in 67 appearances across two seasons at Boise State.
Head coach Leon Rice and Co. will likely explore the portal again despite having some young options at the position. Agbo and departing starter Max Rice combined for 25.9 points per game and 150 of Boise State's 258 made 3-pointers during the 2023-2024 season.
The Broncos did recently add a transfer in former San Jose State guard Alvaro Cardenas, who stood out on a Spartan team that struggled. In the Mountain West, he ranked third in assists-to-turnover ratio (2.67), fourth in assists per game (5.52) and fifth in minutes per game (35.52).
Cardenas also led San Jose State in 3-point field goal percentage (38.5%) and ranked second on the team in scoring (13.2 points per game). However, Agbo was considered the No. 3 returning player in the Mountain West, according to Bart Torvik.
While he has played four years of college ball, Agbo can exercise an additional year of eligibility due to the impact of COVID-19. He signed with Texas Tech as a four-star prospect out of Saint Augustine High School.
