Boise State lands commitment from former LSU tight end Connor Gilbreath

The Broncos have added transfer tight ends on back-to-back days. Gilbreath appeared in 13 games and tallied 56 offensive snaps last season at LSU.

BOISE, Idaho — Boise State football has landed a commitment from a tight end out of the transfer portal for the second-straight day, this time from a player with SEC experience.

Connor Gilbreath announced his decision to join the Broncos on social media Tuesday after entering the transfer portal in April. The 6-foot-5, 265-pound tight end appeared in 13 games and tallied 56 offensive snaps during the 2023 season with the Tigers.

The California native transferred to LSU from Butte Junior College in Colorado prior to last season, and played primarily in short-yardage situations. He will have two years of eligibility remaining with the Broncos.

Gilbreath, tabbed as a three-star transfer by 247Sports, received plenty of Power 5 interest prior to Baton Rouge. He received offers from Arizona, Colorado, LSU, Miami, Mississippi State, Washington and others.

Head coach Spencer Danielson and Boise State's staff also reeled in former Villanova tight end Mitchell Bothwell on Monday.

The 6-foot-5, 240-pound force in the run game appeared in 21 games during his time with the Wildcats, including 16 appearances across the 2022 and 2023 seasons. Bothwell joins the Broncos with two years of eligibility remaining.

Bothwell, a former three-star recruit out of Fort Worth, received offers from East Carolina, Kent State and Tulane after entering the transfer portal in February, according to his social media

The Texas native recorded a pair of receptions at Villanova. As a senior at All Saints Episcopal School, Bothwell received all-district honors after turning 46 grabs into 551 yards and two touchdowns.

Bothwell and Gilbreath join Boise State's list of 2024 transfers that includes the likes of Malachi Nelson, Chris Marshall, Cam Camper and Jeremiah Earby.

The Broncos also landed their second commitment of the 2025 class on Saturday in three-star prospect Dominik Calhoun out of Pittsburgh, California. Calhoun joins Texas native and fellow three-star recruit Quinton Brown, who got the class rolling in April
