Chari Hawkins is set to step into the worldwide spotlight as she fulfills a lifelong dream – representing the United States in the women's heptathlon at the Paris Olympics.
After falling three spots shy of a trip to Tokyo, Hawkins posted the performance of a lifetime at the 2024 U.S. Olympic Team Trials, placing second overall in the heptathlon with a personal-best score of 6,456 points.
The Rexburg native earned one of three Team USA bids in the event for Paris based on current World Athletics rankings. Hawkins will make her Olympic debut alongside Anna Hall, who totaled 6,614 points to finish just ahead of Hawkins at Hayward Field.
Hawkins' silver medal at trials in June featured personal-best marks in the shot put (14.67 meters), javelin throw (49.28 meters) and 800-meter race (2:14.76). The Idahoan also placed second in the high jump and third in the 100-meter hurdles.
