BOISE, Idaho — Gas remains under $3 for another week, despite an uptick in travel for most Americans.
According to GasBuddy, Boise area prices have fallen 8.7 cents in the last week, averaging $2.90 per gallon on Monday. That price is nearly 33 cents lower than a month ago, and is 62 cents lower than a year ago.
GasBuddy surveys over 216 stations in the Boise area, and they found that the cheapest station in Boise was priced at $2.67 per gallon on Monday, whereas the most expensive was priced at $3.49 per gallon, a difference of 82 cents.
As for the whole state, the lowest priced station was $2.67 per gallon, while the most expensive was priced at $3.99 per gallon, a difference of $1.32 per gallon.
Nationally, gas has dropped less than one cent in price over the past week. The average price for a gallon of gas nationally is $3.00 per gallon on Monday. That national average is down roughly 8 cents from a month ago, and is 23 cents lower than a year ago.
Diesel rose in price, by one cent. The average price for a gallon of diesel in Boise is now $3.51.
"Millions took to the road for Thanksgiving, and while some regions, like the Great Lakes, saw gas prices rise just in time for travel, most of the nation saw prices hold mostly stable or decline slightly as the national average remains near the lowest level we've seen since 2021," said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy.
"The weeks ahead should feature slight drops in gas prices in most areas, with over 100,000 stations now offering a gallon for $2.99 or less, which should stick around through the holiday shopping season. While the potential impacts from tariffs are something to watch, they would have no effect until late January, if implemented at all. For this week, all eyes will be on the previously delayed OPEC+ meeting on Thursday. If they begin to restore oil production, oil prices could soften to the mid-$60s," De Haan said.
