BOISE, Idaho — WHEN:
SATURDAY & SUNDAY - The hottest temperatures of the year so far are anticipated for the first weekend of the summer season. Many Treasure Valley spots will likely make a run for 100° (or hotter) on Saturday 6/22 and Sunday 6/23. Boise is forecast to reach a sizzling 100° on Saturday, marking the first time the City of Trees has seen the century mark since August 17th of last year.
IMPACT:
While the weekend will be scorching, temperatures will run 10-20° hotter than normal for many days in a row, starting Thursday and stretching into next week. Expected impacts include:
Increased risk of heat-related illnesses like heat stress and heat stroke
- Increased risk of dehydration
- Rapidly rising and dangerously hot temperatures inside parked vehicles
- Hot pavement could burn pet paws and bare feet
- Increased wildfire risk due to drying-out of vegetation
NEED:
- Find shade and air conditioned spaces as often as possible
- Stay hydrated: drink water before you feel thirsty!
- Avoid alcohol, tea, coffee and carbonated soft drinks, which can contribute to dehydration
- NEVER leave pets or children unattended in parked vehicles
- Wear lightweight, loose clothing
- Limit outdoor activities, especially from 11am-4pm
- Wear sunscreen of SPF 30 or greater if spending any time outdoors
Never allow pets to walk on hot pavement as it can burn their paws; opt for grassy or shaded areas instead.
