Pleasant conditions to round out the weekend; cold, wet, and windy changes by Monday

The daily forecast from Idaho's largest, most experienced team of meteorologists.

BOISE, Idaho — We're rounding out the weekend with a more pleasant day. Overall, Sunday's conditions will be drier and winds will be calmer. It will be a great day to soak in some warm sunshine before temps take a tumble and winds pick up again and more widespread moisture makes a return.

Spotty rain/snow showers are possible for the mountains overnight tonight, so your windshield may be a bit frostier in the morning than it has been.

On Saturday, conditions were still mostly pleasant but winds were still very much a factor in valley locations with maximum wind gusts near 45 mph in the Magic Valley and 30 mph in the Treasure Valley.

Shower and thunderstorm activity was centered around the mountain areas once again. Some of the more consistent rain fell around the central mountains, with a few strikes of lightning this afternoon as well.

Saturday's high temperatures were near 70 degrees across the Treasure Valley, lower 60's in the Magic Valley, and mid-50's in the mountains.

Sunday's temperatures will be similar to Saturday, but they'll drop about 10 degrees by Monday when a strong cold front moves across the region. Valley winds will be powerful, possibly up to 55 mph in the Magic Valley, and snow levels will drop to ~3,500 feet, bringing snow chances back to foothill areas. Up to 2" of snow is possible above 7,000 feet.

Valleys should prep for some potentially frosty and even freezing mornings this week, Tuesday through Thursday. Those younger or more susceptible plants may need protection.

Temperatures look to rebound some time mid-week. Exact timing depends on how long the colder air behind Monday's cold front lingers, and when a high pressure ridge builds in to take its place.
